Maddie: Day 1

From the airport of KCI to New Jersey I got the privilege of sitting next to Tanner Griffin. We jammed to our music and what not for the next couple of hours until we landed in New Jersey and actually made it through the entire flight without hearing a single baby cry (we made a bet.) Once we landed in New Jersey Lindsey, Kira, Rachel and myself all got some good airport food then headed back to our gate to board for Berlin. We boarded about an hour early so I got pretty bored and actually read the first 4 pages of Grapes of Wrath (my summer read) but luckily I got to sit next to Johanna and Cady so they made the super long flight a little bit more bearable. I watched Identity Thief and Safe Haven on the way to Berlin and ate some great snacks along the way. It was cool seeing other people on the plane that you knew were German because it got you that much more excited to just be there. 

The plane ride was a long one but it finally came to an end. Leaving the Berlin airport and getting onto a public bus was quite the experience especially considering I've never ridden on public transportation before and my suitcase weighed as much as me. Lesson learned on how much to pack next time, because no way, no how am I carrying all of that again. Kira, Johanna, Cady, Lindsey and I all decided to get some breakfast at a cafe by the youth hostel. Talking to the waitress and trying to order was really funny. We came back and went to the Kaufhaus Des Western (KaDeWe) which was one of the coolest places I've ever been. I had a ton of fun there up until I looked down to notice my dress just happened to get caught in the escalator prongs. I had to cut the end of my dress off and got nasty elevator grease all over me. It was actually really really funny even though it kinda sucks I ruined my dress. 

After that we got to see our rooms! I'm rooming with Rachel & Kira, so that should make it really fun! iIcan't wait for the rest of this trip and all the funny stories and memories to come!
